Kilian Martin has a video on YouTube that is just now starting to get some steam; today it has just over 200,000 views. Upon watching it I had a few thoughts go through my head:

“That’s not real skating”

or

“That’s a throwback to classic Rodney Mullen and Per Welinder”

or

“That’s kinda gay”

You may have had other thoughts.

I think it’s good for skateboarding because people who don’t skate will dig it and be exposed to more skating. It may not be as epic as Chris Cole Tre Flipping Wallenburg to you and me, but it has a remarkableness (is that a word) to it that supersedes understanding the nuances of skateboarding. Basically…it looks cool whether you know anything about skateboarding or not. It goes without saying that most skaters won’t be into Kilian’s style; though, shouldn’t we embrace creativity in Skating?
