Remember when it mattered? I remember looking through the back section of Thrasher Magazine and looking at the latest models all laid out in a beautiful spread on the Skates on Haight ad. When my crew would sit on the curb outside 7-eleven drinking Big Gulps after a session, we would chat about what pro model we were going to get next.

We were completely into the life of skating and everything we did and cared about had to speak into the story.

Now that I’m older and don’t have mom to foot the bill or a sponsor to flow me fresh wood I pretty much get the cheapest blank deck I can find.

But I’m reminded of the good old days every time a grom asks me; “what kind of board is that?”

To which I reply….”A wood one.”
